CADA PROJECT

The goal of Carmen Malvar is to put in practice in Oaxaca, México and Camariñas, Spain, the results of the research she will accomplish in her dissertation.

CADA is a local Project with a global and viral effect. It is a Fair Trade proposal using design and crafts from a local perspective to achieve a global process. This perspective makes the use of technology and the “social media” essential, as an integral part of a project developed within the context of the 21st century. For this purpose, she proposes the creation of a platform that will be a Hybrid Shared Space. In this Space, a great map will be showed, as in the old commercial routes like the Silk Routes. This map will allow to document and share the sources, the products, the design, the commerce, the process, the exhibition places, the cooperating academic institutions, all of it shown through local sources that create different connections to “weave” a net linked with/to all the levels that participate in the Project. Thus, she proposes a process in which individual and collective-cooperative development go hand in hand, using production models based in the free circulation of knowledge and the creation of collective resources to achieve a distributed, cooperative and self-organized production based in non-exclusive evolutionary principles, as is the norm in popular culture. (Barandiaran & Guiu, 2004)

Therefore, the mission of this platform is to share the necessary information to establish, in a viral way, a sustainable model from the environmental, social, and economic point of view based in a dialogue with the different communities’ artisan approach and developing design strategies during the process as well as in the production and distribution chain. The goal is to foster and facilitate, for the local artisans and suppliers, becoming part of the local and global economy, without the loss of identity, and helping to reinforce their own communities. The recurrences expand the points that make the map´s route and, at the same time, the platform obtains feedback from the new points sources.

In this case, Oaxaca is the focal point for the development of the methodology and Carmen proposes Camariñas as the first place where the experience will be replicated, as a Beta version.  In the Beta version the results of her research and the viability of its implementation in new points will be put in practice.
